Tiger Rising

I was ready to love "Tiger Rising," but ultimately was disappointed. It wasn't that the book didn't have potential - it did. The setting in and of itself was intriquing. But the wonderful voice of "Because of Winn-Dixie" was missing. That voice made me laugh and feel blue and rejoice. I realize "Tiger Rising" was supposed to be darker, and that's fine. But maybe, because of that, and because it seemed to need an older audience, it should have been longer and more developed. I agree about the heavy-handedness of the chained tiger metaphor, too. Yet, I found it definately worth reading, as so many good, but flawed, books are. It's good to see a talent develop and attempt different things.
