I am dismayed (actually I am appalled) that the Newbery committee neglected The Land by Mildred D. Taylor. Really, I can't believe they did not give the book at least an honor. I wonder what it means if a book is good enough to win the Coretta Scott King Author Award but not a thing from the Newbery committee.
