I am a fourth grade teacher who is enrolled as a graduate student at the University of North Texas. Last week we discussed The Three Pigs as the winner of the Caldecott Award. As you would imagine there were mixed reviews. However, I shared the book with my students this week and they absolutely loved it! They reacted just like I did when I started to read the story. They assumed it was another story of the three little pigs like they have heard many times before. When the first little pig was blown off the page they became excited and couldn't wait to see what would happen on the next page. I would imagine that that is the precise reaction David Weisner was hoping for when he wrote this book. One of my students said, "If I had to grade this book I would give it an AAAA+!"
