Newbery winner and perseverence

Hi

When I read that _A Single Shard_ won the Newbery I had two reactions (well three really): "who?", "Do we own it?" and then "didn't that win a couple years ago?" We did own it (thankfully) and I was surprised that a book about an orphan set in Medieval (fill in the blank country) who learns a tradable skill would actually win. Been there done that.

So, being a good librarian I set out to read this book. I've been in a reading slump and have had a really hard time finishing anything.

Well, I finished the book this morning. I found Tree?r's courage and perseverence noteworthy. I enjoy pottery and the details about the pottery was fascinating.

So, thanks to Tree Ear for showing me that perseverence pays off. This is a book I can heartily recomment.
