I was happy with the Sibert awards. All four choices are good, solid works. Surviving Hitler is the one I had not read prior to the announcements, so I got it, read it, and read aloud the intro to my 8th grade class yesterday as we are beginning Elie Wiesel's Night and Susan Bachrach's Tell Them We Remember. It's an excellent resource. Black Potatoes is a nicely done book, beautifully written from the people's point of view. Van Gogh and Brooklyn Bridge are also excellent. Though I'm sure we'll go on to discuss what didn't win -- there were lots of good science books this year, for example
-- but these winners well represent the wealth of good nonfiction out there.
