Really???

I might be terribly naive, but I can't imagine an 8-year-old boy needing affirmation of his "gayness" in books. I suppose it's a reality, but dormant sexuality is a reality for all children, yet no one sees the need for picture books on masturbation so that children thus inclined can feel affirmed. (Please don't tell me those books are out there...)

I know you're just passing on the worries of a concerned parent, but life is tough enough for an 8-year-old without having to decide on (or even have to think about) his sexual orientation, isn't it?

At that age, isn't it more important to affirm a child's sense of belonging in the human family, and to teach them how to cope with the universal joys and sorrows of life? There certainly are enough of those to last beyond eight years.
