It's easy to can see how anyone could become confused about which book has won which award. Many of us are just now getting hold of, sorting out, getting adjusted to, cheering and/or grieving, and looking for the recent National Book Award and American Library Association iinformation about awards. Not to mention the Scott O'Dell and Charlotte Zolotow Awards, and others announced recently to the CCBC-Net community, as well.
"Amber Was Brave, Essie Was Smart" by Vera B. Williams (Greenwillow) was - among other distinctions - named the "winner" of the annual CCBC Newbery Book Discussion. Sorry if that announcement caused confusion, but we hope you don't regret looking for that fine book.
I also want to correct something I wrote a day or two ago. The extraordinary book "Waiting for Wings" by Lois Ehlert (Harcourt) has been named a 2002 ALSC Notable Children's Book. A draft of that list and drafts of the listings of Best Books for Young Adults and Quick Picks for Young Adults can now be seen on the American Library Association web site: www.ala.org
