This is definitely a morality fable, not for younger kids. Seems like it's for junior high and senior high kids, warning them against peer pressure. But will this audience read a picture book?
She recognizes the angel before anyone else does, even though it's ugly at first. Isn't that what we want everyone to do? Recognize that we are special.
I love THE HEAD BONE'S CONNECTED TO THE NECK BONE: THE WEIRD, WONDERFUL WORLD OF X-RAYS (Farrar, Straus & Giroux). I am prejudiced, because the author,Carla McClafferty, is a friend; but I still think this is a great book, full of historical x-rays, facts presented in an interesting way. She's an x-ray tech, so in preparation for the book, she took x-rays of stuff like a watermelon or a doll. It's already been named one of the Outstanding Science Trade books of the year.
Walter--All of your nonfiction favorites were history; do you have any favorite science books for the year?
