Three of my favorite nonfiction books for younger readers are The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins by Barbara Kerley, A Voice From the Wilderness by Don Brown, and Gandhi by Demi. All three portray creative and hard working people who struggled much but did not give up. All three are inspiring and are beautifully done.
I would have loved to have been a guest at the dinner party Hawkins gave to his potential supporters almost as much as I'd love to eat at Hogwarts.
Two of my favorite picture books are Five Creatures by Emily Jenkins and Mice and Beans by Pam Munoz Ryan. (diacritic over n in Munoz) The illustrations compliment the text perfectly and are very humorous. The use of color in Mice reflects Hispanic culture.
