I apologize for veering off topic....I like that CCBC is so focused. Anyway, I haven't offered my picks of 2001.

I loved "Lirael" by Garth Nix. He offers a unique perspective of a world parallel to one like our own. I believe Nodleman calls these types of novels "there and back again" but I think of them as crossover novels.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED "True Believer" by Wolff. Waiting since 1993 to read more about LaVaughn was tough.

"Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" is funny and heartfelt. So many YA novels lean toward the darker aspects of teenhood. It is refreshing to have the funny along with the sorrowful...

"Witch Child" by Celia Rees was haunting. It is interesting to consider J. K. Rowling's glib allusions to history of witchcraft and then read an account based on historical facts.
