It is so much fun reading everyone's favorites. I'll chime in now with a few....

Board Books: I love books that are written and designed to be just that -age appropriate, fun, and work well in this format. Kevin Henkes has two new board books starring his irrepressible mice and charm.... So fun. -Sheila Rae's Peppermint Stick and Owen's Marshmallow Chick

Picture Books: Strong illustrations working wonders with special copy motivate this particular list. The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins; Traveling Man; Martin's Big Words; A Poke in the I; The Three Pigs.

Chapter Books: Junie B. First Grader (at last) is way enjoyable, but as with many students changing teachers, I miss Mrs.

Amber Was Brave, Essie Was Smart -- is this a picture book, chapter book, middle grade novel??? I don't know (nor care) -- it is remarkable creation on many levels.

Novels (Middle Grade and YA): The Misfits; The Gospel According to Larry; Witness; Breaking Through; Seek; and since I loved the unforgettable Giggler Treatment, I equally enjoyed sharing Rover Saves Christmas by Roddy Doyle.

Nonfiction: We Were There, Too is a fabulous social history looking at children in American history from those that worked Columbus' ships through those that first walked into school with AIDS. What an amazing perspective on our history, and I don't think this book should be missed.

Meltdown: A Race Against Nuclear Disaster at Three Mile Island: A Reporter's Story really woke me up and stimulated knowledgeable discussions. I highly recommend this, too.

And I'm a big fan of The Magic School Bus. What a dynamic way to stimulate discussions... So I'm proud to say that I really like Ms. Frizzle's Adventures Ancient Egypt (Is this non-fiction??)

Those are some of my most memorable reads, but as y'all keep sharing yours, my reading list is growing....

Peace,

Nick
