Has anyone else noticed the lack of documentation of sources in We Were There, Too? A pretty serious flaw in an informational book, I'd say. There is a bibliography for each chapter, but there is no citation of the sources of the quoted excerpts. We have to guess at which information came from which book.

I'd love to hear others' recommendations on good informational books this year. What about Bober's Countdown to Independence? Impeccable research and documentation, and a unifying vision, but are fourteen-year-olds going to read this? What about Ambrose's The Good Fight? Is it simply a repackaging of an adult book, and does the format of one page of text crammed with numbers, facts and dates, and one of photographs for each event do justice to the topic?

How about writing in science, and books for younger children? Any favorites?
