Which of the newly published books are you buying for gifts ?
Which ones do you recommend to friends ?
Which ones do you think deserve a medal ? Which one, and why ?
Which ones are so memorable for you that you want to tell the CCBC-Net community what they are, and why ?
For starters, as if you need to be jump-started for this discussion, you might want to visit the "Book of the Week" web page http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/review.htm where you'll find some of our favorites.
One of the books I especially recommend this year is "I Had a Rooster" a newly published version of an old song (Viking). This one has a unique design conceived long ago by Ruth Crawford Seeger, inviting illustrations by Laura Vaccaro Seeger, and a foreword with song-singing tips by Pete Seeger. The enclosed audioCD is a treat, too. I'm one of the family members who has "sung" this book with our two-year-old grandson countless times. Each time through this cumulative folk song has been a delight for all involved.
If you visit the Book of the Week web page, you'll find a scanned image of the book jacket for "I Had a Rooster" along with the review. That's the pattern for each weekly review for the year. Scroll down for reviews of other books, or click on the archived reviews for the year, where there's an alphabetized list of most of them.
Enjoy...
