Hello, everybody- I've loved our discussion so far, but here are a few of my favorites that nobody has mentioned yet:
The Great Good Thing by Roderick Townley -- this is a marvelous book that begins as a fairy tale and ends as an almost metafictional hymn to the art of writing. It's very imaginative, and it would be my Newbery pick for the year, except that sometimes Townley's concepts don't always work as well as they should. However, it's definitely one of my favorites.
Whale Talk by Chris Cructher -- I loved reading this heartbreaking book! Set in a small town in northern Idaho, it tells the story of T.J. (the only multiethnic kid in an predominantly white high school) and his efforts to bring a rag-tag swim team to glory, thus showing up a bunch of racist football players. Crutcher keeps your blood racing the entire time.
I hope some of you out there enjoy reading these (if you haven't already)-Brooke
