Can a poet chime in? Here are some poetry books from the past year that I especially enjoyed:

Young Children: CAT, WHAT IS THAT? Tony Johnston--totally captures a cat's personality, with lovely illustrations by Wendell Mino SILVER SEEDS, Paolilli & Brewer--lovely, simple acrostic nature poems DIRTY LAUNDRY PILE, Janeczko--collection of poems that take the voices of inanimate objects TOASTING MARSHMALLOWS--Kristine O'Connell George's latest, a set of camping poems I'M SMALL AND OTHER VERSES, Lilian Moore--lyric & perfectly suited to kids PIECES, Hines--seasonal poems gorgeously illustrated by quilts

Older Children:
TRUTH AND LIES, Patrice Vecchione--collection of fabulous thought-provoking about what the truth is and how we lie
