Hello, all -- I've been following the discussion of Sylvia Engdahl's work with interest for a number of reasons, the most important of which is this: I'm going to be publishing the paperback of ENCHANTRESS in my new fantasy/science fiction imprint, Firebird, which launches in Spring 2002.

Firebird is specifically designed to appeal to both teen and adult readers, and to be cross-shelved in the teen and adult genre sections. The list is a mixture of books never before in paperback, reissues of backlist classics, and a few surprises! It's very much on the older edge of fantasy, and many of the authors I'm editing for Viking (whose paperbacks will be Firebirds) will be familiar to adult fans of the genre.

Firebird is a direct outgrowth of my work with teenagers, and they actively contribute to the list through a teen editorial board. I am anxious to share ENCHANTRESS with them. They range in age from 12, so it'll be very interesting to see the varying responses.
