[CCBC-Net] Moving from Science Fiction to Fantasy

These aren't recent fantasies, but they're some of my all time favourites and I just thought I'd share them with everyone.

The Riddlemaster of Hed series by Patricia A. McKillip. The end of the first book was absolutely devastating to me! I think it was the first time I'd ever gasped at the end of a book.

The Blue Sword and The Hero and The Crown by Robin McKinley.

Then there's The Earthsea Trilogy by Ursula K. LeGuin. Loved it but not sure how today's kids would receive it. The second book, The Tombs of Atuan in particular was moving.

I was kind of surprised to hear Kenneth Oppel's Silverwing series included in fantasy, although I guess it definitely is. Funny how some fantasy reads more 'realistic' than others.
