My favorite new fantasy title for the past year was "The Seer and the Sword," by Victoria Hanley. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0823415325/
I would put her scope and character development on a par with Lloyd Alexander (although it wasn't funny, as his books often are). It's a hefty tome, but dedicated readers will enjoy the journey, and the content is appropriate for younger readers as well as teens. I would recommend this book to those patrons who enjoyed "The Golden Compass."
