The 25th annual Canadian Children's Book Week begins on November 3 and runs through November 10. Book Week activities will be held across Canada in schools, in public libraries, in bookstores, in community centres - wherever there are people who care about children and the books they read. The Canadian Children's Book Centre is located in Toronto, Ontario. It organizes the event and offers information about the Book Week 2001, such as Book Week tutoring program; names of Canadian authors/artists/storytellers who will be touring during the week; contact information for the regional coordinators who will be organizing the tours in various provinces or territories; and a description of the Book Week Kit. For information visit The Canadian Children's Book Centre web site: www.bookcentre.ca or www.bookweek.net
The U.S. National Children's Book Week will be celebrated between November 12 and November 18. The Children's Book Council is located in New York City, and since 1919 it has offered many ideas and resources to assist in implementing local and regional observances of this annual celebration of books. The Children's Book Council is a nonprofit trade association that promotes the use and enjoyment of books and related literacy materials for young people, and is the official sponsor of Young People's Poetry Week and National Children's Book Week in the U.S.A. The Council's membership is made up of U.S. publishers and packagers of trade books for children and young adults, and producers of related literacy materials. The U.S. Children's Book Week corresponds in dates with American Education Week observances. The Book Week theme for 2001 is "Get Carried Away...READ." For access to details about purchasing Children's Book Week materials and for other incredibly helpful information and terrific resources, visit the web site of the Children's Book Council: www.cbcbooks.org
