little house books

The Little House books, or any books for that matter, should not be considered racist if they reflect the conditions of the time. Pa demonstrated a very tolerant and accepting attitude (for the time and place) towards the Indians and Ma reflected the genuine fears of many settlers at that time. These books demonstrate how ignorance and fear contribute to prejudice. My own children grew up on these books and were mystified and horrified to hear that someone called them racist.
