I so appreciate the comments of rukhsanakhan and Martha Davis Beck. thank you.
It is clear that we could spend an entire month discussing the Little House books. (and perhaps that's already been done.)
Why don't we save it for a special discussion?
I would like to get back to discussing books for early readers.
My son is in second grade. His first almost reading alone was following along in the Pooh books whilst listening to unabridged books on tape.
Okay true confessions. He really enjoys the Tony Abbott fantasy series, the Pixie Tricks series, Captain Underpants, Ricky Ricotta, Magic Treehouse, and I am sorry to say, the Pokemon chapter books. He is starting on the Animorphs series now. Oh, and the Marvin Redpost books by Louis Sachar -wonderful stuff that.
Meanwhile his moms are reading him only the finest literature of course
(yeah, right) at bedtime.
My son always wants to read the books in order and enjoys not only the stories themselves but the sense of accomplishment in moving through a series, and completing a series if it is not ongoing. We try to tempt him with all kinds of books but if a new book in one of his favorite series comes out, he will drop everything and read it nonstop.
peace
