I was very interested to discover on my recent trip that the author of the
"Secret Seven" series, Enid Blyton, was not very well known in the USA. An English writer, she was bigger than Rowling in the UK and here in Australia through the 50s, 60s and 70s. My own nieces (now 10 and 12) ate up her books when they were newly independent readers ? the "Famous Five" series were, and still are, particular favourites with young readers. She was extraordinarily prolific, writing literally hundreds, if not thousands, of books over several decades.
