One series I often hand out to second graders is the Pinky and Rex books by James Howe - large type, plenty of white space and illustrations on almost every page. Others that I don't think have been mentioned yet are the Flatfoot Fox mysteries by Eth Clifford, Alison's Wings (and others) by Marion Dane Bauer, and the two books by Sally Warner, Sweet and Sour Lily and Private Lily.
But it is hard to find those easy chapter books that are not part of a series. Some I have used: Chasing After Annie by Marjorie Sharmat Beans on the Roof and The Seven Treasure Hunts by Betsy Byars The Good Luck Pencil by Diane Stanley The Skirt and The Cat's Meow by Gary Soto
