I can understand Betty Tisel's surprise at seeing another illustrator doing Rosemary Wells' illustrations in her style. Although I'm not familiar with the series nor do I know Ms. Wells personally, as an illustrator currently working in other artists' styles for two series ("Nate the Great" and
"Curious George"), I can assure her it's quite legal. I suspect Ms. Wells, who is amazingly prolific, found she didn't have time to do these illustrations herself and approved of the publisher using Jody Wheeler and her illustrations. She may well have had a hand in hiring Ms. Wheeler.
