I have a good list from the discussion, and in looking it over notice that the titles with characters of color is near zero. I have had students read The Friendship, The Gold Cadillac, and Song of the Trees, but the text size is tiny and they are very dense. Bill Cosby might qualify; they are too hard (in my experience) to be easy readers. Someone mentioned The Skirt and Pool Party by Gary Soto. I like My Name is Maria Isabelle by Ada, but it may be too hard too qualify. First Apples is a good one with a Chinese girl. Other possibilities? Thank you. June Locke Belle Sherman El.
