We interfile some of these books..Nate, Mudge, Frog and Toad--in the E for Everybody section and some--Junie B, Amber Brown, Time Warp, Horrible Harry-- in the Fiction section. We do this by an old rule of thumb I have followed since my first job, based on the amount of space give to illustration: more than half: E; less: Fiction.
I am in a school setting and pretty much hang in there with the kids when they are selecting, so I give a lot of guidance to teachers and kids all the time in this area. I have made bibliographies for this kind of book, but not a new one lately. I agree on the series bit you wrote, that reading them and finding them in the library is a confidence builder both in reading and in being able to own some part of the collection.
Other titles I haven't seen mentioned yet are: Charlotte Graeber's Nobody's Dog The Biscuit books by CAP something; you see I know my library collection by call number! Rylant's Poppleton and Mr. Putter books Anderson's Billy and Blaze books, tho they are a bit harder to read, tho they are perfect for those animal lovers. More later, Betsy Bradley
