Hello, all -- and a special hello to those of you I saw in Toronto at CLNE!
1. The latest (and, as usual, late) issue of The Looking Glass, the free children's lit e-journal, will be posted Wed., Sept. 5 at www.the-looking-glass.net. There are lots of new articles up, including: a piece on technology and teaching children's literature; a paen to bread and cheese (recipes included) in Heidi; a look back at Mordecai Richler's children's books; a glimpse into illustrator Kathryn Shoemaker's studio; and a cautionary tale about children's publishing in the global economy.
2. Our next issue, to be posted Dec. 2 (yes, we plan to be on time) will be our first theme issue -- poetry! So if you think you might like to contribute something, please contact me (see address below). Copy deadline: Oct. 2.
3. We have 2 job openings: editor of The Looking Glass (I'll be leaving at the end of the year) and editor of My Own Invention, the column that looks at innovative children's literature projects. This is a completely volunteer operation, so, sorry, no one gets paid. But here's your chance to hobnob electronically with wonderful children's lit people all over the world, and persuade them to work to a deadline, for free. It's fun, honest! The journal appears 3 times a year: April 2, August 2, December 2. Please contact me for details.
