Ginny's question as to whether currency of information in books on sports figures matters to second graders reminded me of a father-son exchange I overheard at Waldenbooks a few weeks ago, although the boy in question might have been 3rd or 4th grade. They were looking at sale books and, specifically, on a bio of a baseball player (don't ask me who--sorry to say I'm not at all sports-oriented!) but the boy was scanning the book jacket and flap and was very definite about telling his dad that the book was out-of?te and also definite in his expectation that a book about his sports heroes SHOULD be current.
