My post should have really read perceived by some as fluff and fantasy. I believe personally and professionally that children are healed by books in many ways and not often by the prescriptive use of books that we commonly see. So I would be very reluctant to start handing out books on disaster at this moment in time and would trust that children will find healing through books that are humorous, fantastical and that burrow into the unconscious in ways that we can't always predict. But the key here is to allow children the choice of what they want to be reading now. To allow them to speak out about what will soothe them and not to have their classrooms or leisure reading filled with books that adults think should be helpful.

Linda Goettina, D.M.H who went out and bought herself a 'cheesy' romance to read before going to bed tonight, while husband will read the latest Robert Crais thriller...that's calming to him but would send me over the edge.
