The Dubuque Museum of Art has an exhibit of interest to all of us. The complete, original, hand-colored engravings for Arthur Geisert's newest book Nursery Crimes, is going to be on display through November 30. Visitors who walk through the exhibit will be able to read the story from beginning to end while looking at all the original pictures! I've been fortunate to see this art, and am confident that anyone who can make it to Dubuque to see these pictures will be astounded, too. (The exhibit travels to The Octagon in Ames, IA for December 14 - January 27th.....)

Nursery Crimes is a marvelous, fun book (Houghton Mifflin, 2001). It features a family of pigs from Amiens, France, who immigrate to Ames, Iowa where they set up a salvage yard and tree nursery where they specialize in topiary -- especially topiary turkeys. The turkeys are stolen, and hence the title and plot.... Need I say more?

The opening reception of the exhibit is on on Friday, October 5, at 5:30 PM. Arthur will be on hand to autograph books.

On Thursday, October 18th, Arthur's publisher Walter Lorraine will entertain in a Question and Answer session. This event will be at 5:30 PM and I believe is Walter's first trip to Dubuque!

On Thursday, November 1, Arthur Geisert will give a slide presentation at the museum.

The Dubuque Museum of Art is at 701 Locust Street, Dubuque, IA 52001. Tuesday-Friday 10 am - 5 pm; Saturday and Sunday 1-4 pm. Phone: 563 55751
