NF-sports

Tundra published an attractive nf book about sports which might, because of its "cartoony" (this is NOT a put down) illustrations and interesting, if odd, facts, not to mention un-odd facts, something that would surely be of interest to middle graders. (Have we defined what we mean by this amorphous term, "middle graders"? It certainly seems to keep changing.) The book by Hegedus & Rainey, is "Shooting Hoops and Skating Loops: Great Inventions in Sports." I can visualize young folk browsing and then reding this really interesting volume.

From my standpoint as a college softball catcher, the face mask was absolutely the single most important invention in sport. My male friends tell me it was a somewhat lower mask, the cup, that was the most important invention. Viva la difference.
