Hello all -- and a special hello to those of you I saw in Toronto at CLNE. Here are a few announcements regarding The Looking Glass, a free, partly refereed children's literature e-journal. (Sorry they come a bit further into the month than planned...)
1. The new issue (double issue, August 2) will be posted tomorrow at www.the-looking-glass.net. There are all sorts of new articles, including: a look at technology and teaching children's literature; Mordecai Richler's children's books; a paen to bread and cheese (recipes included) in Heidi; a glimpse into illustrator Kathryn Shoemaker's studio; a cautionary tale about children's book publishing in the global economy... plus humour, gossip and more!
2. Our next issue, to be posted (on time, we hope!) December 2, will be our first theme issue. Subject: poetry. If you'd like to contribute, please contact me at the address below. Copy deadline: October 2.
3. There are two job openings at The Looking Glass: editor (I'll be stepping down at the end of the year) and column editor of My Own Invention, the innovative children's literature projects column (position open now). TLG is a completely volunteer operation. Here's your chance to hobnob electronically with wonderful children's lit people all over the world, gently persuading them to send you copy, on time, for free. It's fun, honest! For details, please contact me.
