I completely agree with Sarah Thompson's endorsement of Naomi Shihab Nye's SPACE BETWEEN OUR FOOTSTEPS (Middle Eastern poetry anthology), which I have loved ever since it came out. ?I especially love this poem, very useful in writing residencies with middle school kids because of its simple, graceful metaphor:
The Bridge

Through reading We return.
