Announcement:New York City events at Bank Street

Here are a few events that will be happening at Bank Street College that the CCBC community might be interested in. Please note that Leonard Marcus, author of Dear Genius and a biography of Margaret Wise Brown will be speaking and signing his new book on November 8th. If you are interested in attending the Mem Fox event please reserve a seat by calling 212g854. We are conveniently located 2 blocks from the #1 train at 112th and Broadway in Manhattan. The teacher's nights might be of interest to our crowd because I will be leading the discusion of new fall books. All events are free of charge. Lisa


September, 13th 7pm Mem Fox, internationally respected literacy expert discusses the importance of reading aloud to children. Join us as she shares practical advice and ideas from her new book Reading Magic: Why Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever. All of her books for children and adults will be available for purchase. A book signing will follow the discussion. Call for reservations.

September, 19th 7pm Education expert, children's advocate, and former member of the Weather Underground Bill Ayers will speak and sign copies of his well-loved books including To Become a Teacher, To Teach and his new memoir Fugitive Days. Call for reservations.


October, 14th 11:00am Poet and songwriter Jack Prelutsky delights young and old with a rare performance.

He has written more than thirty books of humorous poetry including his latest, Awful Ogre's Awful Day. Ages 5.
   October, 23rd 3:30pm Test your knowledge and win a prize in a quiz show for kids. Join best-selling author Ken C. Davis on an entertaining trek across the globe as he asks some big questions about the world in the amusing style that has entertained millions of readers. Ken's popular Don't Know Much About* series is now available for children 6 and up.


October, 17th and 24th 6:00 - 8:00pm Second annual Teacher nights. Here is a great chance to see some of the wonderful new books for children coming out this fall, learn about Bankstreetbooks.com and network with other teachers. Refreshments, giveaways, and a special discount for participants. Reservations required. October 17th for teachers Pre k-2 October 24th for teachers of grades 3-6

November, 8th 6:30pm Join us for a reading and book party in celebration of Leonard Marcus' latest book. His newest publication, Side By Side: Five Favorite Picture Book Teams Go To Work, is a behind the scenes look at children's book authors and illustrators
