I doubt I'd be in the third camp. I am 'religious' but I'm hardly Catholic. Nor do I particularly care if 'Mother Church' is under attack--although it seems increasingly Christianity and Christian icons are considered fair game in modern literature.
All along I've been speaking first and foremost about my reaction to The Chocolate War as a writer who is a reader. And I maintain that although I think Cormier had amazing talent, and The Chocolate War is an incredibly powerful book, I don't think it's for everyone.
