Hi all - I have a personal story about I AM THE CHEESE. I read I AM THE CHEESE sometime during high school. I AM THE CHEESE was amazing to me because it introduced me to unreliable narrators. Even though high school was over 10 years ago, I remember reading it and being stunned. And I vividly remember the feeling of unbelief while reading the passages about the kid riding his bike. Did he really make up this journey in his head? Later, I read Faulkner's AS I LAY DYING as a high school assignment and I truly believe that I AM THE CHEESE prepared me for Faulkner. It was so eye-opening to discover the possibilities of narrative. Later still, these books gave me a sense of freedom when I explored all sorts of different narrative styles in my creative writing classes in college.
Anyway, I'm profoundly grateful for I AM THE CHEESE.
