Let's wind up the discussion of Robert Cormier's entire body of published books by forgetting about who might be trying to have the
"last word," (which of course doesn't exist), who might be "dense" and who isn't, etc., by having some dialogue (notice the word "dialogue") about some of Cormier's books barely touched upon during the month. I'm certain some of you have read books other than the two about Jerry Renault - and I know some of you have been waiting for the discussion to turn in a substantial way to some of his other books touched upon briefly throughout August.
It will also be wonderful to hear more about the responses of actual young readers to any one of his books. These anecdotes and comments are very helpful to everyone.
Please, if you have something to say to one person, write off-line to that person, rather than bringing what some see as continuing public attacks to the forefront of everyone's attention.
We're all learning how to be effective communicators in this medium. Without having eye contact and the opportunity to observe body language, it's a real challenge. Usually we're more than up to the challenge in the CCBC-Net community. Most of the people in CCBC-Net do not crave the attack mode of discussion. I've received more comments off-line during the past week than ever before, comments such as
"Can't you make them stop?" At the risk of being labeled by some as
"too nice," "wanting to avoid conflict" or "too polite," I'm asking for peace. Not for silence, but for civility, for actual dialogue.
I invite everyone, including all participants this month so far
(notice "all) to finish off the month's discussion with civil commentary. Anyone with thoughts about my request, please write to me off-line, or write to Katy or Megan. We want CCBC-Net to meet the information needs and interests of everyone to the extent that this is possible, and we truly value your feedback. - Ginny
