Jim Murphy will recieve the 2001 Award for Non-fiction from the Children's Book Guild of Washington, D.C. and the Washington Post at the annual Children's Book Week Luncheon. The luncheon will be held at noon, Saturday November10, at the Metro Marriott Hotel 775 12th st. NW, Washington D.C. Tickets are $55. Books by the speakers will be available for purchase and signing. Murphy is the award-winning author of more than 25 books about American history. He has won the Golden Kite Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators for The Boy's War and The Long Road to Gettysburg. In 1996 his book The Great Fire was named a Newbery Honor book.
Also speaking at the November10 luncheon will be award-winning fiction writer M.E Kerr and Caldecott winner Emily Arnold McCully. The elegant luncheon will be hosted by members of the Children's Book Guild.
