It's interesting that you portray Jerry as a hero. I didn't see him that way. I saw him as, excuse my language, a shit-disturber. (Ironically I've been told that I fit this description too.*g*)

The reason why I didn't see what Jerry did as being heroic was because it seemed so arbitrary that he didn't want to sell the chocolates any more. But that in itself was probably Cormier's whole point. The very arbitrariness of the whole thing and he even mentioned at one point that it wasn't about chocolates any more. It was about non-conforming--resisting. But what he was resisting didn't seem worth the effort.

I don't blame the others for not resisting. I didn't see what Jerry did as being all that noble for the very reason that it was so arbitrary.
