True Believer and Make Lemonade

Karen Simonetti asked:

When Wolff was writing -Make Lemonade- did she know/conceive/feel that there was another book/a sequel to it? Will there be more? And do you all imagine that these titles would be crossovers for adults?

Because not everyone has access to the Horn Book interview, I wanted to say that in it she says that the answer to this question is no. It was later, she explains, that she became "interested in the questions the first book raised...and really got interested in La Vaughn." Make Lemonade and True Beliver are now the first two books of a planned triloogy.

Also, Karen says, "I don't stop to bother identifying as poetry or not - Does anyone think this is a mistake?" and I would say, no. I empahsized the "not poetry" in my earlier posting because Virginia Wolff herself says it isn't poetry and I think it's important to hear what she has to say on this as it is such an issue of debate. But as Dean Schneider points out, Roger Sutton disagrees with her, saying it is poetry. So it's a matter of opinion, it seems, more than intent.

For me, it doesn't matter what you call it, what matters is the impact the narrative--whatever one labels it--has.
