In response to Kirstin's comment about LaVaughn being such a strong character. She was, but as I read I couldn't help thinking what she would be like if her mother hadn't been so dominant in her life. I could see the strength from her mom flowing into her daughter. Molding her in one sense but also giving her the courage to chart new waters. Through thick and thin it was the responses, both remembered and imagined, from her mother that kept LaVaughn focused.
