June 2001 It's been said that Peter S?s is one of the most imaginative artists of children's books today. Books we'll discuss will include Bean Boy (Greenwillow, 1984); Alphabet Soup (Knopf, 1987); Beach Ball (Greenwillow, 1990); Follow the Dream (Knopf, 1991); Kodmodo (Greenwillow, 1993); The Three Golden Keys (Doubleday, 1994); Starry Messenger (Frances Foster/Farrar, 1996); Tibet (Frances Foster/Farrar, 1998); Fire Truck (Greenwillow, 1998); and Ballerina (Greenwillow, 2001). Peter S?s will have a summer residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a guest of the Arts Institute.



July 2001 The novel "True Believer" by Virginia Euwer Wolff (Atheneum / Simon & Schuster, 2001) is one of the most provocative works of fiction published this spring. We'll discuss this new book, along with its predecessor "Make Lemonade" (Henry Holt, 1993).

August 2001 This month we'll take a look back at some of the books of Robert Cormier, author of young adult classics such as "The Chocolate War," "I Am the Cheese," and "After the First Death."

September 2001 Fiction and nonfiction about athletes and athletics, including books by Margaret A. Edwards Award winner Robert Lipsyte, and new books by Sue Macy ("Girls Got Game"), Walter Dean Myers ("The Greatest: Muhammad Ali"), Charles R. Smith ("Short Takes"), and Markus Zusak ("Fighting Ruben Wolfe"), as well as sports books for younger children, such as the new series by Gail Gibbons ("My Baseball Book," etc.).
