Featuring the Americas Award for Children's and Young Adult Literature
Featured keynote speaker: writer/photographer George Ancona
George Ancona is a well-regarded and highly prolific writer and photographer who has published over eighty books for children. Perhaps because of his own Mexican heritage, Ancona has produced an incredible range of titles set in the Americas, including: Cuban Kids, Carnaval, Fiesta Fireworks, Barrio: Jose?s Neighborhood, Mayeros: A Yucatec Maya Family, Charro: The Mexican Cowboy, The Pi?ata Maker, Fiesta USA, and Pablo Remembers: The Fiesta of the Day of the Dead. As readers of his work know, Ancona vividly conveys the worlds of diverse children whose daily lives reflect culturally rich heritages.
Sponsored by WEAVE, Inc (Culturally Competent Family Literacy for the Global Village), with the Hispanic Division and the Center for the Book, Library of Congress, and Centro de la Familia.
Although the registration deadline has passed, limited space still available. (The registration fee has been waived; conference attendees may purchase lunch for $20.)

The Composition by Antonio Skarmeta (illustrated by Alfonso Ruano), published by Groundwood and The Color of my Words by Lynn Joseph, published by HarperCollins.
Lynn Joseph will be present to accept the award; Patricia Aldana
(Groundwood) will accept on behalf of Skarmeta and Ruano. The award presentation is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Library of Congress with the Consortium of Latin.American Studies Programs.
