Elizabeth Burr Award Winner Announced

The 2001 Elizabeth Burr Award, presented each year to a Wisconsin author/illustrator for distinguished achievement in children's literature, goes to Kathleen Krull for Lives of Extraordinary Women. Ms Krull now lives in San Diego, but spent a significant part of her life in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Library Association's Children's Book Award Committee, which oversees the Burr Award, also selected Kevin Henkes as a Notable Wisconsin Author for the body of his work.
The committee also selected 10 Outstanding Children's/YA Books by Wisconsin book creators. These are: The Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936 by Susan Bachrach; Dragon Bones and Dinosaur Eggs: A Photobiography of Explorer Roy Chapman Andrews by Ann Bausum; Stretching Ourselves: Kids with Cerebral Palsy by Alden Carter; Buttons by Brock Cole; Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes; The Raft by Jim LaMarche; The Savage Damsel and the Dwarf by Gerald Morris; Good-bye for Today: The Diary of a Young Girl at Sea by Peter and Connie Roop; The Mighty Skink by Paul Shipton; Growing Seasons, illustrated by Ken Stark
The WLA Children's Book Award Committee members are Rob Reid (Chair), Diane Carriveau, Nancy Jackisch, Mary Keefer, Judith Moriarty, Catherine Norris, Rhonda Puntney, and Lynette Vlasak.
