Starry Messenger

I really enjoy Peter Sis' unique books, but I have to admit, that cursive writing in "Starry Messenger" drives me crazy. I think I understand why he chose an unusual style of writing. Like other elements of the book, it forces you to look closer, to explore each spread of the book all the way, panels, insets, and all, instead of just reading, glancing at illustrations, and turning the page. And since the cursive words are separate from the main narrative, the style sets them apart. I do wonder, though, if the cursive puts off many young readers who haven't learned it yet or just general readers like me who don't enjoy the visual struggle..
