Mark your calendars now! Richland County Public Library and the University of South Carolina's College of Library and Information Science are pleased to again host A(ugusta) Baker's Dozen, a storytelling event now in its 15th year. Held annually in Columbia, SC, this celebration honors the late Augusta Baker, former Coordinator of Children's services for the New York Public Library system. After retiring from the New York Public Library, Mrs. Baker moved to South Carolina and was appointed Storyteller-in-Residence at the University of South Carolina. Through this festival, her love of words, literature and stories still influence young and old alike.

This year's festival will be on Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28, 2001. Newbery Award-winning author Virginia Hamilton will deliver the keynote address, "A Storyteller's Story," open to the public, at the University of South Carolina Law School Auditorium. A reception will follow.
