Tony Earley, author of the acclaimed novel, Jim the Boy was named one of America's Twenty Best Young Writers by Granta, and is a professor at Vanderbilt University.
Jules Feiffer, a playwright and author, is the creator of I Lost My Bear, The Man in the Ceiling, and Bark, George for children, and Little Murders and Carnal Knowledge for adults.
E.R. Frank, author of the groundbreaking first novel, Life is Funny, is also a social worker in Brooklyn, dealing with young people much like the characters in her book.
Jack Gantos is the author of many books including, the 2001 Newbery Honor Book, Joey Pigza Loses Control, and the 1998 National Book Award Finalist, Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key. He is the author of the adult novel, Zip Six.
Robert Lipsyte, a New York Times columnist, is the author of the young adult novels The Contender and One Fat Summer. He won the 2001 Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime contribution to writing for young adults. His adult non-fiction includes In the Country of Illness.
Richard Peck, is the author of the 2001 Newbery Medal Winner, A Year Down Yonder, a sequel to A Long Way From Chicago, a 1999 Newbery Honor Book, as well as books for adults including London Holiday and Amanda/Miranda.
