I have just learned that a CCBC-Net message I posted a week ago did not go out to the list as I thought it had. We're sorry for the long and unintended silence.

Here is the text of the message I sent.

Diane Grexa wrote wondering why CCBC-Net has been uncharacteristically quiet these past few days. I suspect this is a time when many people are on spring break, and away from their computers.

Having just returned myself from a time away, I truly enjoyed reading the comments people have made about the work of Marc Simont. A special thanks to Anne Hoppe, Senior Editor at HarperCollins, for providing her great insights into Mr Simont's work from the perspective of editor. I especially appreciated Anne's response to Linda Pavonetti's question about Marc Simont's illustrations of James Thurber's work. Barbara Lalicki also offered her perspective as an editor who worked with Mr Simont on the "Nate the Great" series by Marjorie Sharmat. Again we were reminded of Marc Simont's versatility and longevity as a children's book illustrator.

Both Anne and Barbara, and Ruth Gordon, wrote eloquently about Marc Simont's newest book, The Stray Dog, which has just come out from HarperCollins. I hope many of you have had a chance to see this fine, expressive picture book. Here at the CCBC we are looking forward to discussing it in our monthly discussion this Friday.

If any of you would like to make any final comments about "The Stray Dog" before we turn our attention to the books of Robert Cormier to close out this month's discussion, please feel free to do so today.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to remind folks that our May discussion will focus on the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. A brief listing and description of upcoming topics for the next few months can always be found on the CCBC web site at: http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/listdisc.htm
