The Lovely Summer by Marc Simont remains one of my favorites of this author.

Perhaps it's just because I have battled rabbits in my own garden that this story of the "kind summer residents" that provided food for a rabbit family caught my interest.

The rabbits are grateful for the delicious fresh greens, then the fence to keep "their" garden free from pests and when a "bully" arrives, the summer folks helpfully trap him so the rabbits can continue to enjoy the wonderful garden.

Momma rabbit even encourages good manners as they return the wave of the
"nice people" as the car pulls out at the end of the summer. (The nice person is waving at the rabbits with his fist.)

I have used it in preschool story times for years with much success. It is an excellent example of a "point of view" book that the teachers I serve are always seeking for their classes.
