I'm amazed by the efforts Kathy Isaacs' and her school went to to share Pedro and Me with 7th graders. I found this book remarkably rich -particularly after first glance when all I saw was a cartoon. My read was captivating and I figured older children would enjoy the characters, the pace and design. I must admit that I haven't met a child who has read it, although this conversation has sparked me to get it to a local teen organization I'm affiliated with.

I wonder, harking back to Kathy Isaacs' sharing the book with 7th graders, if they instantly recognized Judd Winick (the author). He is, I believe, an MTV star -- and while this fact doesn't phase me, it could mean a great deal to attract this book to a certain age group and audience. Does this then qualify as a YA version of a celebrity book?
